Sun Rival is a good all-round ornamental crab apple. The blossom is profuse, going from pink-bud to white open flowers. The fruits are small, light red in colour, and hang like cherries.
Sun Rival grows in a distinctive weeping habit, with branches often reaching the ground.

Delivery period: Pot-grown trees can be delivered from September onwards. Bare-root trees can be delivered from mid-November onwards. Malus Sun Rival is self-fertile and does not need a pollination partner, although fruiting may be improved if there is a compatible tree of a different variety nearby.
Like most crab-apples it blooms over a long period and is therefore a good pollinator for other apple and cider-apple varieties flowering at the same time.
