Orange Pippin is the result of a hobby that got out of control! Our main website - www.orangepippin.com - began life as a place to record a few tasting notes of our favourite apples. As we added more descriptions the site started to get more hits, and generated a lot of interesting correspondence, which in turn helped us find out more about apples. We soon added a comment feature, where fellow apple orchardists could write their own comments, and have been pleasantly surprised to find that so many people share our enthusiasm for apples.
Orange Pippin Shop is a new venture for us. The 2009 season was our first. We were frequently asked where it is possible to buy trees and fruit of the varieties we have described, and in the end we decided that selling fruit trees online was a natural extension of the Orange Pippin concept. Initially we are only selling trees for delivery to the United Kingdom and western Europe but we hope to extend our service to the USA and Canada soon. Proceeds from the sale of trees help to pay for new developments to our main Orange Pippin website.
You will also notice that we are not selling every tree that we describe on our main website - instead we have focussed initially just on the varieties that get the most interest. If you want to buy a tree that is not listed please do get in touch with us, as we are keen to add new varieties to our range. We have contacts with a number of fruit tree nurseries throughout the world and even if we cannot supply you, we may know someone who can. We also have a propagation service and have access to more than a thousand different fruit tree varieties.
Unlike our original website, our Orange Pippin shop is not restricted to apples - we have taken on a good range of top fruits - pears, cherries, plums, damsons, mirabelles, nectarines, peaches and apricots. This reflects our own growing interests. In fact we have been building up new material for some time, especially on plums, and this will soon appear on the main Orange Pippin website. However because of the need to be ready for the new planting season we have decided to concentrate on setting up our shop first - so you will get a sneak preview of our tasting notes on these other fruits ahead of them appearing on our main website.
