Sunrise is an excellent modern summer apple, ripening at the end of August.
Although descended from two notably sweet North American varieties, McIntosh and Golden Delicious, Sunrise is quite different. It is distinctly crisp to the bite, and the flavour is fairly sharp and tangy - but still sweeter than many other early varieties.
Unlike many early-season apple varieties, Sunrise will keep for up to a week in a fridge. The apples will also hang on the tree over a period of 2-3 weeks without becoming overripe, allowing you to pick them as you need them.
