Charles Ross is a large versatile English apple, which can be eaten fresh but is also good as a baking apple, and for apple tarts which require sliced apple.
The apples ripen mid-season and are very attractive, and look great in the fruit bowl. They store fairly well but the flavour and juice tend to fade.

Charles Ross is an excellent garden apple variety. It is easy to grow and has some natural disease resistance.
This is also a good variety if you have chalky soil, as it is more tolerant of alkaline conditions than most apple trees.
